Is there really such a thing as the best time of the year to visit Disney World?

Short answer, maybe(?) It really depends on your schedule and your preferences.

This guide will highlight the times of the year when the weather (and crowds) are most likely to give you a chance at the most magical trip you’ve ever had!

Planning around the weather at Disney World

I know I’m repeating myself but I want to be clear, Florida is HOT most of the year…Like really hot. If you’re not in a friendly relationship with all things summer, plan your trip for January, February, November, or December. (These include higher crowd times – lesser of two evils sort of thing – but we’ll get to that later.) Even in Florida’s “winter” months the high temperature can be anywhere from the low 50’s into the 80’s! It’s beautiful!

Now let’s talk about the other 8 months of the year… It’s sunny and beautiful as well but it’s potentially rainy too. The summer months have rainy evenings almost every day so you’ll want to plan accordingly for that and pack things like sunscreen and ponchos for the same day. If you prefer water parks and pool weather though, the summer months are well worth the evening rains!

Planning around crowds at Disney World

I think this is definitely the bigger thing to consider for trip planning for the sheer fact that crowds can be much more difficult to work around with things like ride wait times and available reservations.

Most families tend to book their trips around school schedules so spring, summer, and winter break times will be the busiest times of the year. You’ll also find more crowds surrounding big holidays like the 4th of July, Halloween, and New Years.

Don’t worry! It’s not impossible to have a magical vacation with crowds!

If you’re planning your trip around a busy travel time you (or your travel agent) should be sure to snag all of your fast passes and reservations as far in advance as possible. Dining reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance. Fast Passes can be made up to 30 days in advance for those staying off property and 60 days in advance for those staying on property. (I highly suggest staying on property for many reasons – tons of perks)
